Dinamo Zagreb have stunned a 10 man Arsenal side in their opening Group F encounter at the Stadion Maksimir, holding on for a memorable 2-1 victory last night.

The Croatian champions took a shock lead inside a quarter of an hour when some lovely interplay allowed Josip Pivaric through on goal, only for his shot to be parried away from David Ospina straight into the path of the oncoming Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, who was hapless in watching the ball nestle into his own net after rebounding off the attacker.

The task was made all the more difficult for the Gunners when Olivier Giroud was then given his marching orders after collecting a second booking for committing a silly foul just before half-time.

Their misery was further compounded when the home side doubled their advantage, Junior Fernandes climbing highest to head home from close range.

Theo Walcott was able to pull one back for the visitors after calmly slotting it past on the on coming Eduardo Carvalho, but Zagreb were able to see the game out to record a famous win, and their first in the Champions League proper since 1999.
