Brisbane Strikers manager Kevin A’Herne believes Tim Cahill’s maiden Melbourne City appearance will pose more problems for the visiting Victorians than to his team.

Strikers host City at Perry Park in the FFA Cup round of 16 on Wednesday night and it is expected Cahill will play some part in the match having received international clearance from Football Federation Australia (FFA).

Speaking exclusively on the Daily Football Show on Tuesday, A’Herne predicted Cahill’s arrival would bring greater issues to City rather than his Strikers.

He questioned whether the 36-year-old had adjusted to the City setup.

“It (Cahill) has been on the tip of all the players’ tongues since the draw came out and the opportunity to play against somebody who’s been so influential in football during their whole upbringing,” A’Herne said.

“These were very young boys when Cahill was playing over at Everton. He has a star, legendary status in Australian football and rightly so.

“It probably poses more of a problem for Melbourne City to be honest because a lot of their work over the last year has been based around (Bruno) Fornaroli.

“The preseason games, the FFA Cup games, it’s been based around one system with one target man, Fornaroli, wingers and 10s behind him.

“So all of a sudden, Cahill brings a different dynamic to what they’ve previously done, and whether they’ve had enough time to work on playing them both together, I’m not sure.”

Cahill will wear the no.17 shirt for City.
