Liverpool and Germany midfielder Emre Can appears increasingly likely to miss this weekend’s clash against Leicester City as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

Can, 22, was forced to withdraw from the German squad ahead of the current international break after sustaining the injury in the Red’s victory over Burton Albion in the EFL Cup.

The midfielder has only made one appearance this season, having also missed the 1-1 draw with Tottenham prior to the international break.

Following the clash with Burton Albion, manager Jurgen Klopp said the injury would only keep Can out of action for a small amount of time.

However, Liverpool’s official website noted a number of returning Reds following injury lay-offs, with Can a notable omission, suggesting the injury is set to keep the German out of action for longer than anticipated.

A number of Reds have returned from their national team commitments and in a boost to Klopp’s side Saido Mane was pictured training fully.

It was reported the summer addition had picked up a knee injury while playing for Senegal during their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Namibia.

Mane is not the only summer signing in the clear, with goalkeeper Loris Karius have resumed full training having completed his recovery following a broken hand suffered during pre-season.
