The dependable Petr Cech was dropped as Arsene Wenger insisted he has two world-class goalkeepers after a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

It is not the first occasion that the Arsenal manager has dropped Cech from the UEFA Champions League competition, with David Ospina preferred in the group stages throughout last season.

“I have two world-class goalkeepers, we analysed well last season and this season. I decided to play Ospina tonight,” Wenger told reporters following the match.

Although performances in last seasons competition from the 28-year-old Columbian suggested otherwise. Ospina was particularly culpable against Olympiakos and was removed from first team duty afterwards.

The experienced manager remained coy on the situation and went on to explain that both teams made changes for tactical reasons.

“I don’t want to surprise, I just want to play a team that can perform,” Wenger said.

“They made changes to adapt to us and we have made changes to stop them from playing too.”

The Gunners secured an unlikely draw in Paris after a strong performance from the stand-in custodian.

All eyes will be on Wenger’s team selection ahead of the second group stage match against Basel in a fortnight’s time.

Arsenal travel to Hull City in this weekend’s Premier League action looking to build on two straight victories at the KCOM Stadium.
