Brazilian star Neymar was close joining Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United this summer, his agent Wagner Ribeiro has revealed.
While the 24-year-old penned a new five-year deal with FC Barcelona, keeping him tied to the club until 2021, Ribieiro also stated that a move to French champions Paris Saint Germain, was on the cards.
However, the forward opted to stick with his current club, turning down the allure of an increased wage in the process. An improved Premier League broadcast deal has seen an influx of world class talent taking up offers in England.
“He was close to joining PSG,” Ribeiro told ESPN Brazil.
“He would have earned €40m a year net.
“Neymar was also close to a spell at Manchester United, but he extended his contract to earn less at Barcelona because he wanted to stay at Barcelona.”
The Catalan giants face 11th placed Alaves this weekend after picking up a maximum six points from the opening two La Liga matches, but Neymar is yet to feature after being allowed an extended break after leading Brazil to gold at the Olympic games.
