Melbourne City have a long trip home after a poor performance in Newcastle in which the Jets came away with the three points.

Jacob Melling (Melbourne City) – Some could say the sending off was arguable, but in the end he should not have been in that situation as he got himself into all sorts of trouble after a poor touch. It was a clear foul, and with Nordstrand looking like he was clean through, he can’t have too many complaints. Other than that he failed to really have much of an influence on the game with stray passes and a lack of conviction with his pressing.

Paulo Retre (Melbourne City) – The young midfielder had a great chance to show his potential and potentially try to hold down a midfield role in the absence of Caceres. However, he was poor and substituted early in the second half. He struggled to have any influence on the game going forward and gave Leonardo way too much time and space to weave his magic.

Aaron Mooy (Melbourne City) – Perhaps a little harsh on one of Australia’s most talented midfielders, however, given his importance to the side City are off the boil when he has an indifferent match. His passing range was sloppy, set piece delivery sloppy and he lacked his normal energy and pressing which has made Mooy one of the league’s most dangerous players.
