Two goals in three minutes from Melbourne City could not prevent them from losing in the final minutes to a Besart Berisha tap-in.
Melbourne Victory’s 3-2 win was a deserved one on the balance of play over the course of 90 minutes, despite a valiant City comeback.

The reigning champions went in front on 23 minutes when Fahid Ben Khalfallah’s strike took a wicked deflection and bobbled over a despairing Thomas Sorenson.
In the 57th minute Kosta Barbarouses doubled Victory’s lead after a super cross from Khalfallah saw the New Zealander head in at the back post.
When it looked like the game would peter out, City responded with two quick-fire goals in just three minutes from Bruno Fornaroli and Stefan Mauk.
But the man who has a fine record in the derby would have the final say, tapping in from close range after Connor Pain’s driving run into the box.
