QPR started the 2015-16 Championship season brightly, with much of their success being attributed to a red hot Charlie Austin.

However, after the striker sustained a hamstring injury during Rangers’ recent rout by Fulham, questions are being asked as to who will step-up and fill the void?

Austin has been absolutely pivotal for Chris Ramsey’s men thus far, scoring seven goals in nine league games. His contribution, however, is not only through scoring goals. The front man has a tireless work rate and great ability to bring others into the play. Furthermore, he is often seen sitting way back in his own-half, defending the box and forcing the opposition into a pass. His consistency has been a great asset to the Super Hoops and it is hard to envision another individual contributing as much as him.

Yet there are several players who, perhaps with a push, can help QPR remain one of the Championship’s best attacking teams.

If there were one player who of similar class to that of Austin it would be Leroy Fer. The Dutchman, along with Austin, is regarded as Premier League quality and if it were not for a failed medical, he would be there now with Sunderland AFC. Blessed with strong legs and a keen eye for goal, Fer has the ability come from deep and find the net. His physicality is also reknowned and will prove useful in the rough and tumble world of the championship. Though Fer is not capable of directly replacing Austin at No.9, his presence and skill should help recuperate some the attacking threat lost.
