A tough night in Amman saw the Socceroos once again ambushed in Jordan after a disappointing 2-0 defeat overnight.

The result drops Australia to second in their 2018 World Cup qualifying group at the halfway stage and still in a reasonably good position to advance, with three of the remaining four games at home over the next six months.

Postecoglu not afraid to gamble on selections

While most of the squad remained unchanged from the last game, it was a bit surprising to see Tommy Oar handed a start on the wing by Postecoglou, pushing Matthew Leckie up to the top of the formation. This seemed to suggest that the Socceroos would be looking to utilise their pace and would try to get in behind the Jordanian defensive line. Unfortunately, they sat very deep and the service into the danger areas never came, with the Jordan defenders doing a fantastic job shutting down every forward foray.
