The Western Sydney Wanderers have continued their offseason recruitment with the signing of Spanish midfielder Dimas Delgado from Spanish club Recreativo Huelva on a one-year deal.
The 32-year-old becomes the Wanderers seventh signing, and will join the likes of countrymen Andreu and Italian marquee Federico Piovaccari, amongst A-League regulars Scott Jamieson, Jacob Pepper, Andrew Redmayne and Scott Neville.
Delgado has spent his career playing in the lower tiers of Spain, he began at Gremenat B and rose through the ranks to earn a berth in the senior team before sealing a switch to Barcelona B in 2006. The towering midfielder, standing at 180 centimetres, had a season in La Liga with Numancia in 2008, and then moved to Cartagena in the Segunda Division, until most recently plying his trade with Recreativo.
Dimas has clocked up over 200 caps throughout his time in Spain, and Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas spoke of how that experience and quality will return Western Sydney to a competitive club when the A-League kicks-off in October.
“We have had a very big offseason in terms of our recruitment, we believe that these new additions will have us in a very strong position leading into the coming season,” said Tsatsimas in a club statement.
