Wellington will look to make it two big scalps in as many weeks when they take on a red hot Adelaide United on Saturday afternoon

Wellington’s recent haul of goals

Ernie Merrick’s side have not hit the high expectations set out by last season, but in recent outings they look to have finally rediscovered their eye for goal.  With nine goals in the past three matches, it’s the first time Wellington have achieved that feat since December last season when Nathan Burns was leading the line.  They present a tricky challenge for Adelaide United with their rejuvenated firepower in attack.

Adelaide chasing 14 unbeaten

What a turnaround. Poor in the opening part of the season, remarkably, Adelaide find themselves in a position to claim top spot. Four wins in the past seven matches against the Nix and six clean sheets in their past 11 encounters will fill the Reds with confidence. Guillermo Amor will be looking to break a record set by predecessor Josep Gombau and stretch their record to an incredible 14 games without defeat.

How important was Roar’s Friday night win to the Reds?

As things stand, the A-League Premiers Plate race is as unpredictable as its ever been. Brisbane’s dramatic 3-2 win against Western Sydney Wanderers allows Adelaide the opportunity to propel themselves to the top. The burning question is whether that result will be weighing on the Reds’ players minds and if they can respond to the pressure in a positive manner. Amor has more than just a tactical battle on his hands before they walk out to face a tricky Wellington.
