Last season’s champions and runners-up could not be separated last night as Leicester and Arsenal played out a  0-0 draw at the KP Stadium.

The Gunners drew a sharp save on the 30-minute mark, with Claudio Ranieri’s men having a penalty claim turned down as halftime approached. Jamie Vardy missed a chance, while a last minute ricochet very nearly opened the scoring for the Foxes.

The 0-0 final scoreline sees last 2015-16’s leading duo continue their slow starts to the new campaign.

Collective effort remains vital for Leicester

Leicester are renowned for their remarkable team ethic. It was again on display against Arsenal as the collective reigned supreme. With Mark Albrighton re-installed on the left-flank, the champions attacked with renewed width and defended with real vigour.

Claudio Raneri will be pleased by his team’s ability to ensure that they remain focused as a unit. It was a strong tactical display by his side.

Foxes have found their midfielder

Left reeling from the departure of midfield linchpin N’Golo Kante, the ability of Nampalys Mendy to step into the starting role was excellent and Leicester held their own in the middle of the park with a greatly improved performance from the new heart of midfield.

Mendy had to be substituted due to injury shortly after halftime, but he made such an impression the club will be hoping his stint on the sideline is a short one.

Arsenal desperately need to spend in the transfer market

With failed efforts to obtain multiple players throughout the offseason, time is running out for Arsene Wenger. Last night’s performance lacked a cutting edge, in what is proving a familiar theme for the side.

Signing a central-defender is essential, with youngster Rob Holding again thrust into the starting XI. An unconvincing defensive display ensures that the striking role is not the only priority as deadline day approaches.

Magical Mahrez signs on

The Algerian’s wide-play was on display against the Gunners, after leaving them battered and bruised by signing a new four-year deal with Leicester.

The meek transfer requests from North London were quickly put to rest, as Riyad Mahrez put Arsenal on the back foot with an encouraging display. His lightning quick feet combined, with his eye for goal, were their for all to see as he worked hard searching for an opening in the match.
