Sydney FC have been given a huge boost ahead of the new A-League campaign, announcing the re-signing of the 2014/2015 Hyundai A-League Player of the Year, Miloš Dimitrijević for a further two seasons.

The Sky Blues attempted to retain the Serbian’s services at the end of last season but wage demands meant negotiations were unsuccessful.

However, two months in Europe and without a club Dimitrijević returned to Sydney and reached an agreement with the Sydney-based club after lowering the same demands that saw the two parties fail to reach an agreement at the first attempt.

“I thought long and hard during the off season about where I wanted to play my football and I am happy I have made the right decision,” Dimitrijević said.

Calm and thoughtful,Dimitrijević’s quality was hailed time and time again last season from coach, Graham Arnold who most recently described him as a “quality player”.

A busy schedule with Asian Champions League back at Allianz Stadium means that Sydney need far greater depth to a squad which fell agonisingly short of their third A-League Championship crown.

“To have Milos back strengthens our midfield immensely as we need a lot of quality and depth with a heavy program, a lot of players away for Olyroo duty and the Asian Champions League matches, plus A-League,” Arnold said.

The former Red Star Belgrade-man will provide the benchmark for competition once more with Terry Antonis, Mickael Tavares, Rhyan Grant and Brandon O’Neill all vying to partner him in midfield.

Dimitrijević is expected to link up with his team-mates partway through August.
