Brisbane Roar have secured a major coup on Monday, securing the services of youth product and Socceroo Tommy Oar for the remainder of this season as well as the two following.

Oar, 24, returns to Suncorp Stadium after trying his luck overseas firstly with Eredivise club FC Utrecht followed by Championship side Ipswich Town.

Plucked from Brisbane’s youth side in 2008, Oar made 23 appearances in the Roar senior team and shot to prominence by scoring from a 91st-minute free kick in his second match against Wellington Phoenix.

Oar then played 105 games for Utrecht before making the move to the Tractor Boys in 2015, where he would only play nine games before suffering a bout of apparent home sickness and abruptly quitting the promotion hopefuls.

Roar Football Operations Manager Craig Moore said Oar’s signing reiterated John Aloisi’s intention to bring the best talent on offer to the Queensland club.

“Tommy is a quality player with a proven record in top-flight football,” Moore said.

“His signing continues John Aloisi’s intentions to bring the best and brightest players to the club.”

Oar will be in the crowd for Brisbane’s crucial Friday night match-up against Western Sydney Wanderers.
