Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez is playing just as big as a role off the field as he is on it.

Algerian international and new signing Islam Slimani says his decision to join the Premier League champions was made easier after what he had heard about the club from his international team mate.

The striker joined the Foxes on deadline day for a club record fee rumoured to be around £25.5 million, possibility rising to £30 million with bonuses.

“To join a team like Leicester City is a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started,” the 28-year-old was quoted as saying in the Leicester Mercury.

“I’ve always wanted to play my football in the Premier League and to get the opportunity to do that with the reigning champions was something I simply could not turn down.

“I saw the amazing success of last season and the passion of the club’s supporters. That’s something that I’m so excited to be a part of.

“My friend Riyad Mahrez spoke to me about the club and about the atmosphere the Leicester fans create at King Power Stadium.

“I will give absolutely everything I have on the pitch for them and for my team-mates and I hope that together we can achieve something special.”

Slimani will reunite with Mahrez and his Algerian team mates ahead of their match against Lesotho on 5 September.
