It has been a busy transfer window for the Bundesliga.

All of Germany’s top teams moved quickly to secure important and influential signings in the hunt for glory.

What were the best five acquisitions?

Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich

In one of the most controversial moves of the summer, Bayern brought ex-youth player Mats Hummels back to Bavaria for €38 million. The German is an incredible signing for Bayern, who have secured a talented and proven defender. The 27-year-old will be key in their search for another Champions League trophy, but Bayern will feel hard done by as they overspent on a player in the last year of their contract.

Mario Gotze – Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund

After three unsuccessful years at Bayern, Mario Gotze finally returned home to Dortmund but only as a shadow of his former self. While the Black and Yellows paid much less than what they sold him for (€26 million), there is no guarantee Gotze will return to his old form. Nevertheless, if Thomas Tuchel can restore the 24-year-old to the form that saw him dubbed “the German Messi” this signing could be the biggest bargain of the season.

Kevin Volland – 1899 Hoffenheim to Bayer Leverkusen

Kevin Volland’s transfer did not cause much fanfare, but this young German forward is one of the Bundesliga’s most important transfers, signed for €18 million. Volland was one of the league’s most sought after forwards, being able to play in almost every attacking position and has extreme potential. With Javier Hernandez, Hakan Calhanoglu and now Volland, Die Werkself have built up an impressive cast of attackers which could signal a title challenge this season.

Ousmane Dembele – Stade Rennais to Borussia Dortmund

For a 19-year-old talent, €15 million seems steep, but Dortmund had to do whatever they could to secure the services of the French winger. It was reported that a number of clubs were interested in Dembele but the man himself revealed that Dortmund had been in contact with him for over a year, which was the factor that convinced him. In Dembele, BVB have a youngster with extreme potential to become a world class forward.

Renato Sanches – Benfica to Bayern Munich

Bayern also secured a 19-year-old wonderkid in European Champion Renato Sanches for €35 million. The Bavarians moved quickly to tie him down to a long-term contract before Euro 2016 and watched as the youngster wowed Europe with incredible performances. Sanches not only has a mature play style, but he presents a long term answer to the problem of the ageing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, something that Bayern desperately need.
