Juan turning out to be a key man for Mancini

It is plain and simple to see that Juan is not a regular left-back.

Lacking the mobility and pace needed in order to get up and down the left-flank regularly to aid his team in attacking phases, the Brazilian clearly performs best in the centre of defence.

In saying this, however, the 24-year-old has come on in leaps and bounds in this position, having deputised there for Mancini towards the back end of last season, and has put in some impressive performances on the left side of Inter’s back four. Such was his influence in today’s game that he was close to being, if not actually being, the man of the match before having to be stretchered off following a late tackle from Juraj Kucka.

Early on, when the aforementioned central defensive pairing of Medel and Murillo was not thriving, Juan came to the rescue, making some last ditch tackles and interceptions to help avert Milan’s attacking threat.

It is a shame that he may now spend time on the sidelines, and his return would be a welcome one for his manager.
