AC Milan
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6: The young goalkeeper had a rather successful debut, appearing confident between the sticks. Could maybe have done more against Berardi’s free kick.
Alessio Romagnoli – 7: Started to prove his worth with a quality game, making some important clearances and using his height to an advantage.
Ignazio Abate – 4: Made very little impact throughout the game, picked up a yellow in the process.
Luca Antonelli – 6: Struggled at the start but his constant tracking down the wing proved useful. Needs improvement.
Alex – 6: Effective in possession, the ageing defender was slow off the blocks whenever Sassuolo players brought the ball to his side.
Andrea Poli – 5: Failed to control the midfield for much of the game, unable to produce anything significant.
Riccardo Montolivo – 6: A fairly subdued and quiet first-half showing, much better as the game wore on.
Juraj Kucka – 7: All over the ball and had great control in the midfield, constantly running and providing some needed link-up plays between defence and attack.
Alessio Cerci – 7: Threaded the pass to Bacca which resulted in the penalty for the striker and proved a constant threat to the Sassuolo backline. Solid throughout the match.
Giacomo Bonaventura – 6: Not as threatening or as consistent as he should have been against 10 men, smashed a volley towards goal that floated wide but did little else in the match
Carlos Bacca – 6: Scored from the spot after earning a penalty in the early stages for Milan, proved less threatening throughout the match after the goal.
Substitutes
Luiz Adriano – 7: Scored the second goal for Milan with a bullet-like header from a corner.
Andrea Bertolacci – 7: Played only 20 minutes, subbed into the game late in the second-half but made an immediate impact and kept the defenders guessing
Keisuke Honda – N/A: Subbed into the game in injury time.
