After nine rounds here’s an understanding of how Ladbrokes stacks up all of the eventualities.

Who can challenge the Victory?

The reigning A-League champions are the yardstick yet again this season. Kevin Muscat’s outfit are well drilled, disciplined and dominate in possession. Many believe both the Premiers Plate and Championship is already at AAMI Park headquarters, but football is never that simple despite their clear $2.85 favouritism.

Western Sydney Wanderers have emerged as a credible challenger, following an off-season recruitment drive and represent excellent value at $5.

Don’t discount Melbourne City who have shown that on their day they are capable of demolishing sides, who are $6.00 to compete for top honours.

John Aloisi’s second coming as a head A-League coach has seen him enjoy a remarkable change in fortunes. The Roar possess some of the best attacking talent in the league and you can get them at an enticing $7.50.

Defensively sound, but inept in attack thus far, Sydney FC are a hard one to gauge. You certainly cannot doubt the quality in the squad and especially when they are priced $7 to win then perhaps it’s worth a cheeky flutter.

And a rank outsider, who play some of the most attractive football in the league, Wellington Phoenix are excellent value at a neat $14.

Is Fornaroli capable of claiming the Golden Boot?

Nicknamed ‘El Tuna’, Melbourne City’s latest foreign import Bruno Fornaroli has enjoyed a wonderful start to his A-League career, topping the scoring charts with seven goals in eight appearances. At $3.25 he represents decent value.

Unsurprisingly, breathing down his neck is Victory’s talisman Besart Berisha. The Albanian is deadly and when he’s provided with expert service from Gui Finkler, Fahid Ben Kalfallah and Kosta Barbarouses it’s almost impossible to go past him at $2.80.

If you are looking for a rougie then Brisbane young Jamie Maclaren ($7.50) and Wellington’s star striker Roy Krishna ($10) are two sound choices.

There can only be six…

As it stands, it’s a wide open race between seven teams for finals spots.

Western Sydney Wanderers lead the way on 19 points, however second to seventh are separated by just four points.

Newcastle Jets have surprised everyone, sitting just two points outside the six and are placed at a juicy $2.50 to make the cut.

While Wellington Phoenix will be desperate to ensure they are a part of the end of season action, and at $1.44 for an almost certainty, it’s an excellent bet.

They may have had a horrid start, but even Adelaide United at $2.25 is worth a punt as they gradually grow more accustom to Guillermo Amor’s tactics as the season wears on.

Battle of the cellar dwellers

Perth Glory have endured a nightmare start to their campaign, sitting rock bottom and with just one win on the board.

However, at $2.75 they are only second favourites to take the wooden spoon, with Central Coast Mariners tipped to take the unwanted gong at $1.80.

Although Adelaide finally notched up their first win of the season, they have been utterly unconvincing thus far and at $7 you would be absurd not to chuck some money on them to finish bottom.

Newcastle Jets have made an encouraging start, but remain a youthful and inexperienced side and if you fancy them to falter in the latter stages of the season then $10 to prop up the table isn’t too outrageous.
