Damien De Bohun has resigned from his position as the Head of the A-League earlier today.

A statement released by Football Federation Australia indicates that family issues were the main reason given for his decision.

The news comes just days after the FFA’s announcement of a Four Year plan to further develop Australian football, which included the establishment of a marquee player fund and a focus on audience growth.

“Damien brought incredible energy and dedication to the task, which spans a huge range of sporting, business and regulatory issues,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.

“I totally understand his decision to return to Melbourne and wish him all the best.”

De Bohun’s last campaign at the helm will be remembered for the saga with the A-League supporters, who clashed with the games governing bodies over an unjust process of banning spectators from games and the use of flares inside stadiums.

After working with Cricket Australia, De Bohun was appointed as the head figure to the A-League in 2012.

“The real focus, though, has been to work closely with the ten clubs and the vast array of other key stakeholders including broadcasters, A-League players and coaches, sponsors, stadiums, media and most importantly fans to create a stable and sustainable competition,” he said.

“We have achieved that today and I am very pleased that the Hyundai A-League is in a solid position heading into a new period of opportunity and growth.”

De Bohun will wait until the end of the season to officially step down.
