The 21-year-old won the award ahead of Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard, Manchester United utility Antonio Valencia and Hull City defender Curtis Davies.
The ex-Liverpool player who made a big-money move to Manchester City in the summer of 2015 has made an impressive start to life under Pep Guardiola.
Sterling has scored two goals, assisted another and won a penalty in his side’s perfect three-game run.
The England international has started in each of City’s three Premier League victories and his form signifies an increase in form after he was shunted to substitute appearance roles in the second half of last season.
