The AVPL is well and truly back and here’s a close look at the best individual displays on PS4 after the first week.

GK – Twitchy (Pied Piper FC)

The Pied Piper custodian kicked off week one in stellar fashion, playing a big role as his side claimed nine points from a possible 12. Despite a minor blip against Guunneerz to open the season, Piper have since gone on to win three in a row, keeping a clean sheet in each match. Twitchy was most impressive against Pitballs FC, making six saves in a 1-0 win.

CB – des_Agony (Scorgasm CF)

Much like his club in week one, Agony turned heads with fine performances for Scorgasm CF as they sit second on the table. The defender, who is appearing in the AVPL for the first time, kept three clean sheets in four matches and has been an integral part in Scorgasm’s early season form. He made two tackles in the week and even managed to provide an assist in a 5-0 drubbing against Elite Eleven FC.

CB – grunnerzzz (Taree Wildcats)

Notoriously a striker, Grunnerz entered AVPL season five as one to watch. After spending most of the off-season looking for a club, Grunnerz found his home at Taree Wildcats, playing in the heart of the defence. In a pulsating start to the season, Grunnerz became an influential piece to the Taree lineup as they dominated week one, finishing with 10 points and four clean sheets.

CB – leemwoo (Pied Piper FC)

After plying his trade with WinRAR for three seasons, Leemwoo made a well-documented move to powerhouse Pied Piper FC during the off-season. And while WinRAR may be enjoying an impressive start to season five, Leemwoo has been at the heart of everything good in Piper’s quick start. He was at his best against FC Drips, stopping everything after his side went a man down to record a 2-0 victory.

Recently lauded for his incredible February in Rivals, Ninja transferred his form into the AVPL with an impeccable week for the second placed Scorgasm CF. The midfielder was at his immaculate best, assisting four times while also chipping in with a goal. Scorgasm’s 3-0 victory over Mighty Fuchs was where Ninja was at his most lethal, making four tackles, assisting twice while also scoring.

CM – verratti_azzuri (Neverlusin FC)

It’s been one hell of an introduction to competitive FIFA for Verratti as he announced himself on the big stage with arguably the best opening week from a debutant in AVPL history. Not only did the midfielder score twice and assist four, he also contributed defensively, making a mammoth 10 tackles. He turned it on in Neverlusin’s 5-0 win over Not Them Again, scoring once before setting up a further two.

CM – Amerrrrr (FKN WINRAR)

After having a controversial off-season which saw him signed by Not Them Again before mutually terminating his contract and returning to WinRAR, the forward-turn-midfielder capped his week in the best fashion, scoring four times as his side finished the week undefeated. He saved his best performance for his previous owners too, making five tackles and getting on the scoresheet as his side outmuscled Not Them Again 4-2.

RM – PreflightOhio7 (Taree Wildcats)

The second Taree player to get himself into the Team of the Week, Ohio led from the heart of midfield as his side stamped their authority on the AVPL. With three assists and a goal, Ohio continues his form that has scene him light up the competition in the past. Ohio proved the difference against Like no OthA FC, scoring the winning goal as his side prevailed 1-0.

LF – Sameer25 (Neverlusin FC)

Touted as the rising star of the AVPL, Sameer’s Rivals form saw him burst onto the scene before a big money move to Neverlusin confirmed his undoubted ability. The striker enjoyed a fruitful first week, scoring five times and assisting one to consolidate equal first in the Golden Boot race. Like many before him, his best performance came against Not Them Again, netting a hat-trick in a 5-0 win.

RF – MitchBraaahz (Imperials)

Many questioned me when I named Mitch one of the premier strikers in the business, but he proved his ability with an impressive opening week with Imperials. The striker banged in four goals and also assisted one as his side finished 10th after week one. His best match came against Elite Eleven FC, where he made the most of a lacklustre defence to score twice in a 3-1 win.

ST – Shelfordson (Neverlusin FC)

It comes as little surprise that one of the most proven strikers in AVPL history should be named in the opening Team of the Week as Shelfordson led from the front to lead Neverlusin to third after week one. Shelford enjoyed a fruitful week one alongside new striker Sameer, scoring three and assisting six in his four matches. If he can keep up his form, Shelford could be an early shout for Player of the Season.

Performance of the Week – Shelfordson (Neverlusin FC), Round 2

HeroCard_PS4 (1)

There were a plethora of impressive performances over the first week of AVPL action, but none more so than that of Neverlusin FC striker, Shelfordson. In their round two match against Not Them Again, Shelfordson produced a performance of absolute quality, assisting three goals for strike partner Sameer while also getting himself on the score sheet. He’ll be disappointed he couldn’t add more though, missing a penalty late. However, the damage was done by that point.
