Newcastle Jets

Mark Birighitti –  7: Largely untroubled but did have one moment of panic, fumbling a corner which led to a Brosque chance. Otherwise was safe before his injury.

Jason Hoffman – 6: Had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside. Hardworking on the right but his touch left a lot to be desired and needs to improve.

Daniel Mullen – 7: Solid and strong. He would have been disappointed to concede so late from a set piece.

Ben Kantarovski – 7:  Yellow card aside (lucky not to be red) he was good. Smeltz targeted him but did not get much change from the Broadmeadow Magic junior.

David Carney – 6:  Today he lacked the dynamism required for a modern day full-back. No doubt he wiill look forward to his return to the wing.

Mateo Poljak – 6: Solid and dependable. Kept the Jets ticking over and marshalled the dangerous Sydney midfield well.

Cam Watson – 5: Defensively sound but his passing needs work. He turned the ball over on a number of occasions. He will need to improve.

Mark Birighitti came off worse after a collision with Shane Smeltz.

Enver Alivodic – 7:  The Jets most dangerous man. All their chances came through him and he gave both O’Neill and Ryall problems after switching flanks midway through both halves.

Leonardo – 6: Dangerous and picked up good positions but final ball was off. He is still adapting to the speed of the A-League.

Labinot Haliti – N/A: Unrated after being subbed off early with a right leg issue.

Milos Trifunovic – 6: He was lively when the ball was in his area. His opportunities were limited due to Sydney’s  firm control over possession.

Substitutions

Brandon Lundy – 6: Was introduced early on after Haliti’s injury. Did nothing spectacular, did nothing wrong either.

Ben Kennedy – 7:  Made himself big to deny Smeltz late on and did all he could for the goal after coming on so late. Wasn’t his fault and score could have been worse late on if not for him.

Mitch Cooper – N/A: Did not get the time to influence the contest.
