Perth Glory hold Iraq to draw ahead of World Cup qualifier

Iraq have warmed up for their World Cup qualifier for the Socceroos with a 2-2 draw against A-League side Perth Glory at Dalmatinac Park on Thursday evening.

The visitors took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to an own goal, before striker Mohammed Shokan doubled their advantage.

Kosta Petratos got Glory their first goal from the penalty spot, after striker Joe Knowles was bought down in the box.

Richard Garcia equalised shortly later heading in from a cross from the left into the top corner to restore parity for the hosts.

New recruit Liam Reddy was among the strong performers for Kenny Lowe’s side on the night.

The match was used as preparation by the Glory also who prepare to host Sydney FC in their Round of 16 FFA Cup match, who will be aiming to continue unbeaten so far on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile for the visitors they will now turn their attentions to getting their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Socceroos have named a near full-strength team for the clash, with no uncapped players in Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the clash on September 1 at NIB Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will also face Japan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Thailand in group B
