The A-League landscape was permanently changed when the Western Sydney Wanderers were established on the 4th of April, 2012.

A region that was considered to be the original base for their Sky Blue neighbours, Western Sydney had to wait until the collapse of Gold Coast United to see the formation of a team that would almost immediately capture the public’s imagination.

By the end of their first campaign the club had already rocketed to success, winning the Premiers’ Plate after recording a 13 game unbeaten streak and making it through to the A-League Grand Final where they were defeated by Central Coast.

The next season would only get better for the men from Parramatta though, achieving new heights for an Australian club by winning the AFC Champions League in 2014. Western Sydney defeated Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal 1-0 on aggregate over a two-legged final, with Tom Juric scoring the decisive goal.

Perhaps more so than their impressive results though, the Wanderers may be better known for their die-hard and sometimes controversial supporters, who from day one have shown a level of dedication like no other fans in the competition. The ‘Red and Black Bloc’ never fail to make an impression when watching their team and are guaranteed to turn out in force for even the longest of away journeys.

With the composed eye of Tony Popovic at the helm and a constant cavalcade of talented players coming through the squad, the Wanderers quickly shook off the tag of an ‘expansion team’, once again among the top three on the table heading into the finals series.
