Adelaide United boss Guillermo Amor was delighted by his side’s inspiring 4-2 win over the Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium on Easter Sunday.

The Reds had to overturn an early deficit after Roy O’Donovan scored the opener, but goals from Isaias, Stefan Mauk, Bruce Djite and Pablo Sanchez ensured they kept pace with top spot.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Amor admitted it was crucial to claim the three points in order to secure the highest position possible, come the end of the season.

“It was important today’s result, the three points, to win the game, we created a lot of chances I think to win the game,” Amor said.

“In this moment … the players are confident with these three points and need to prepare for next week.”

The Barcelona legend stated he was pleased with the way his team responded after conceding an early goal.

“It’s good to continue with this, when you win after [after going down early] to have this control and recover the ball … and in this moment we need to be calm with the ball.”

Amor was also in awe of youngster Mauk after he scored a spectacular individual effort to make it 2-1 – dribbling past three players before sliding the ball past goalkeeper Paul Izzo.

The 20-year-old moved to Adelaide midway through the season from Melbourne City in a swap deal for Osama Malik and has swiftly endeared himself to the United faithful.

“He’s fantastic. He’s fantastic in games in training, he works a lot always,” the Spaniard continued.

“He’s a very good player and we’re very happy with him.”

Adelaide next travel to the harbour city to face a dejected Sydney FC outfit on Saturday night.
