Real Madrid has once again been placed atop the standings of the money kind but how does this affect the club’s football?

There can be no doubt that Real Madrid one the biggest sporting clubs in the world. In fact, if one mentions the words “football” or “soccer” the squad is one of the first things to enter the minds of many.

It is many victories and titles won as well as having had quality players over the years that has given the side a reputation of not only success and grandeur, but also a lasting legacy in the footballing sphere.

However, this is further compounded by the lure and the appeal of money, which, of course, speaking frankly, the club is rolling in.

Indeed, Real has for the third time been named as the Forbes’ World’s most valuable soccer team.

No surprises there.

Their matchday, commercial and broadcast revenues are extraordinarily high when considering their global reach.

The Spanish giants are worth $3.62 billion, thanks to its $746 million in revenue which is the most out of any global sporting side.

In fact over a three year period, Los Galacticos have averaged an annual operating income of $171 million, with $154 million from competing in the UEFA Champions League alone.

Yes, we can definitely say the side is not in any way strapped for extra pocket money.

It is at times blatantly obvious that for some players, the lure of the green is as attractive as playing for a stellar and world-renowned club.

Real’s world-class players are what separates it from the other sides whom often struggle to contain the force that is Los Blancos.

There is no doubt that money has often aided the side in this sense.

Yet how does it really benefit the side apart from wages?

Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s men have every avenue at their arsenal with the best coaches, equipment, surfaces and stadiums.

However, victory is not only in preparation but in teamwork on and off the pitch as well as a much perfected playing style with the ability to adapt where needed.

Recently, critics and fans alike have noticed and absence of this on the pitch from Real, including their recent 2-1 loss to Italian giants Juventus in the Champions League.

Despite the second leg being at the Estadio Santiago Bernebau, it is by no means a sure victory for the Spanish side as the stadium is a lesser fortress than once previously considered.

Yet it is more than expected of the side to win and progress to the final in Berlin.

Why, you ask?

Well, it comes back down to… yep, you guessed it – money.

Spaniards and Madridistas the world over can be sure that all the money spent on various elements and aspects of the side has not gone to waste.

Indeed, they seek clarification that the money given to the players has not gone to just funding their lavish lifestyles, flashy cars or controversial 30th birthday parties (sorry Cristiano Ronaldo).

Rightly so.

Supporters and football spectators alike long to watch the Madrid of old whose goalscoring and attacking prowess was unlike any other footballing side.

The kind which elevated the side from La Liga dominators to global household names.

Yet more than anything, they strive for continual success and want to banish the at times lazy and sloppy actions of the side in which several players have temper tantrums and have forgotten the true meaning of the word “team”.

Changes need to be made to the formation of the squad which may go against the prices paid for several players.

According to fan Lucas Navarrete from managingmadrid.com, if changes need to be made, then they should be done.

“If an £86m player needs to sit on the bench, so be it,” he wrote in his article for the Daily Mail online publication.

His sentiments echo the voices of the millions of Madrid fans the world over.

Money is helpful in certain circumstances, but when the players are on the pitch they are all equals in a contest to win by as great a margin as possible.

There is no ‘I’ in team and money should not enter the mix either.
