Drogba living up to the hype, as Montreal take advantage of games-in-hand

The weekend’s most impressive result arguably came in Montreal. On the back of a six-game winning streak, the inform New England Revolution were dismantled at the home of the Montreal impact, with Jay Heaps’ men claiming an eye-catching 3-0 victory.

At the heart of the Impact’s success was undoubtedly the catalyst that the side has been looking for throughout the season. A certain Didier Drogba.

The ex-Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend has taken to the American league instantly and once again proved his physicality combined with his invaluable experience can prove a powerfully effective cocktail in MLS play.

Drogba scored one, created another and generally looked as if he had the game exactly where he wanted it throughout the 90 minutes. Ominously signs for Montreal’s playoff rivals.

In truth, the result may have also been conditioned by New England coach Heaps’ negative tactics. But the fans at the Stade Saputo will cherish the points no less, in particular with a seemingly defeated NYFC side nipping at their heels
