Brisbane roar travelled to Sydney to take on the league leaders in a highly anticipated top of the table clash.

The weather was no one’s friend as the rain made for a scrappy and disjointed game with neither team able to push through for the winning goal, finishing 0-0. Overall, both teams will be happy not to have lost, but the highly awaited game left much to be desired.

Brandon Borrello, more than an attacking threat

Sydney looked to attack down Brisbane’s right hand side, with the high pressing game meaning that Rhyan Grant was pushing forward and looking to get on top of Borrello. Borrello watched the overlap runs from the left-back like a hawk. The winger chased back all night, fulfilling his defensive duties, and then some. It is encouraging to see the young player embracing this aspect of his game and showing his ability to fulfill his job and work for the team.

Unfortunately, this played directly into the hands of Sydney, with Roar’s counter attacking threat tiring and not being wide and forward when they looked to break forward. While it was encouraging to see his high work rate, it will be a lesson learned form the Roar, and from other A-League teams, in regards to how they must go about quietening the potent Brisbane attack.
