Villarreal
Alphonse Areola – 7: His team’s best player. Kept Villarreal in the game with two smart saves in the first and dealt well with the Levante corners.
Mario Gaspar – 6: Always seemed to be trying something but without much working.
Eric Bailly – 5.5: Was given a torrid time by the Levante forwards but will come out as the better of the two centre-backs.
Victor Ruiz – 5: Beaten by Deyverson for the goal and will hope to put this performance behind him. Not his assured self.
Bojan Jokic – 2: Two yellow cards in the first half put his team under pressure. Will not have endeared himself to the Yellow Submarine faithful.
Samuel Garcia – 5.5: Provided an outlet ball on the right but did not put too much pressure on the hosts. Was replaced on 57 minutes.
Manu Trigueros – 5: The more attacking of the central-midfielders, but in truth Villarreal missed Bruno.
Tomas Pina – 6: Had to battle for his team and performed admirably.
Alfonso Pedraza – 4:Taken off at half time after an anonymous performance.
Nahuel Leiva – 3: The unfortunate recipient of a substitution after Jokic’s red card. Had done little up until that point.
Roberto Soldado – 4.5: Stranded up front after the red card caused the reshuffle. Looked tired in possession.
Substitues
Jaume Costa – 6: His performance, coupled with Jokic’s stupidity, will see him restored to the starting XI next time out.
Samu Castillejo – 5.5: Provided a lot of running but with no end product. Continues to frustrate.
Jonathon Dos Santos – 6: Got himself into the game quickly after replacing Samuel. Was a cool head on the ball.
