BREAKING: Juventus confirmed for appearance in Fawkner tonight

Footballing giants Juventus are set to pay tribute to Moreland Zebras’ Italian roots this evening at CB Smith Reserve in Fawkner.

The Zebras have a scheduled PS4 NPL2 West fixture against Sunshine George Cross tonight, and club bosses have taken the opportunity to reach out to the 32-time Serie A champions to be part of it.

Juventus released a teaser video in the early hours of Friday morning which features the Moreland Zebras logo, with the NPL Victoria promotion hopefuls confirming the event via social media this afternoon.

The Fawkner-based outfit has promoted the #SupportZebras hashtag, along with the slogan ‘Time to give back’.

At this stage, it is unclear whether representatives of the playing squad will be in attendance, but a promotional video featured a video of Argentine star Paulo Dybala and Brazilian midfielder Hernanes interacting with fans and handing out promotional flyers.

Originally founded in 1948 as Brunswick Juventus, a homage to the club’s Italian roots, the team from Melbourne’s North has changed its name a number of times, but kept close ties with the Turin outfitdonning the iconic black and white strip throughout its history. Fans can also be heard referring to the Zebras as “Juve” on match-days.

Danny Gnjidic’s side sit third in the NPL2 West standings, and could move to second ahead of St Albans Saints on goal difference with a win by three or more goals.

Juventus face off against A-League outfit Melbourne Victory at the MCG on Saturday night, with tickets available via Ticketek.
