Western Sydney Wanderers went five points clear at the top of the table after a seven-goal thriller at Pirtek Stadium.
Fans were treated to an end-to-end game of football, with both sides eager to impose their style on the match. The Wanderers finally scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute after Mitch Nichols provided an exquisite finish following a turnover by the City defence.

W-League – Grand Final preview – Melbourne City v Sydney FC
Despite City’s best efforts to claw their way back into the match, the decision to play a high defensive line – even after multiple warnings in the first half – backfired as Nichols and Bridge combined for two goals in five minutes to put the home side three goals to the good and in the driving seat.
Melbourne City refused to go down without a fight though, as two brilliant individual goals from Harry Novillo and Bruno Fornaroli set up a cagey finish to the match. However, the visitors went down to ten men following Anthony Caceres’ second yellow card, opening the door for the Wanderers to score a fourth through Brendon Santalab to seal the points, despite a stoppage time goal from Erik Paartalu.
