Newcastle Jets have secured their first win at Central Coast Stadium since 2008 with a 1-0 win over the Mariners to close out round 21.
Steven Ugarkovic’s lone goal was enough to secure them the three points and condemn Central Coast to another loss.
Leonardo played the 21-year-old through in the 57th minute, with Josh Rose in prime position to intercept but failing to do so, allowing Ugarkovic to score his first goal for the Jets.
Newcastle had most of the momentum in the first half, but the Mariners were able to get back into the game in the second stanza. While they searched for an equaliser, they rarely tested Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.
The loss sees the Mariners all but secure the wooden spoon as well as earn the record for most consecutive games without a clean sheet. Conversely, the Jets are undefeated in four and edge closer to a top six spot.
