Brisbane Roar have risen to second on the A-League ladder after a 1-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners to wrap round 11.
A lone goal from substitute Dimitri Petratos was enough to condemn the Mariners to yet another loss – their fifth in a row.
Brisbane dominated proceedings in the first half, holding the bulk of possession. However, the away side was unable to execute their chances.
Roy O’Donovan created the best chances for the Mariners, however his attempts were easily dealt with by Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young.
The second half saw Brisbane continue to look the more likely to score but they could not fashion any dangerous chances.
As the match progressed the Mariners had some meaningful shots on target, once again through O’Donovan and Mitch Austin.
Central Coast goalkeeper Paul Izzo was kept busy as the half went on, saving shot after shot from the Roar attackers. But Izzo could do nothing to stop Petratos’ 85th minute goal. Thomas Broich played the substitue in and his curling shot from just inside the box hit the back of the net.
Central Coast appeared to have scored late in injury time after Josh Rose’s shot was deflected in off one of his teammates. However, the Mariners’ player was clearly in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
Brisbane’s win sets up an exciting clash with Melbourne City next weekend.
Did someone forget to tell Mariners fans that the boycott is over? #CCMvBRI

Commentators have bought up Gosford's band on at least 5 different occasions this half which accurately sums up how exciting it is #CCMvBRI

I like that everyone is talking on how bad the Mariners are playing. Brisbane aren't any better. #CCMvBRI

Another 45 minutes of uninspired, unprofessional insipid garbage. We'll be averaging sub-2000 crowds by the end of this season. #CCMvBRI

The frustration in Gosford continues. Feels like forever and a day since the house has come down here. #CCMvBRI
