Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to go top of the table, following a nightmare 4-0 loss at St Mary’s.
After disposing of Manchester City in midweek, the Gunners were rightfully bestowed with the title favourite tag.
The side’s well documented mental problems appeared to be all but behind them, only for their fragility to rear its ugly head once more.
Arsene Wenger’s side were on the receiving end of a word-class strike, combination of bad luck and porous defending.
It was the north Londoners’ worst defeat in the league since they lost 4-0 away to Anfield in 1990.
Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter:
Why are some fans saying Arsenal out the title race already?
We're just 2 points off the top and have just had one bad game.

Very Essien-esque v Arsenal.

Arsenal have been awful today. I can't think of many worse performances this season. They haven't shown up. Where's Monday night's team?

Arsenal haven't won at Southampton since they started buying all Saints' best academy graduates. Long live "add-ons".

Arsenal are still title favourites. Can the same be said about your club?

Look, Southampton played well, but the 1st goal was little bit offside, the 2nd a foul, the 3rd a goal kick and the 4th maybe something too.

You can lose. But 4-0 can deeply affect Arsenal confidence for the rest of the season. When you have to deliver, you fail, and dramatically
