Western Sydney Wanders are joint top of the league after a 2-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners at Central Coast Stadium to end round eight of the A-League.

An open and free flowing contest saw both sides have chances on goal early in the match, but it was the Wanderers who looked more dangerous.

The 0-0 score line was taken into the half time break and 20 minutes after the restart, substitute Brendon Santalab was able to coolly finish after a through ball from Mitch Nichols.

Nichols doubled the Wanderers advantage in injury time. He was left unmarked in the box and although he scuffed his shot it still found the back of the net.

While the action on the pitch was far from lacking, the actions of the fans were once again in the spotlight. Both sets of active support revealed banners throughout the match, echoing the sentiments which have been at every game this weekend.

The Western Sydney fans walked out on the 30 minute mark as a form of protest.

The Mariners pressed late in the game, with the introduction of substitute Matt Sim bringing the visitors to life. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough and the Central Coast failed to score for the first time under Tony Walmsley.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the action both on and off the pitch.
