Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy edged himself into Premier League folklore following his record-equalling 10th consecutive goal.

Claudio Ranieri’s men travelled to St James’ Park on Saturday looking to continue their impressive start to the season.

Meanwhile, Vardy was targeting his 10th consecutive Premier League goal, a feat that had only been reached by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

There were question marks over whether Vardy and Leicester would be affected by the international break, which had come at a bad time for the Foxes following their impressive run of form.

It appeared to have an effect on the away side as the first half was heading for a stalemate.

That is until Vardy made history.

After receiving from Leonardo Ulloa, the 28-year-old took it onto his right foot and struck the ball low and hard to beat Rob Elliot at the near post.

The former non-league striker is the only player in Premier League history to score in 10 successive games in the same season.

Leicester went on to record a 3-0 victory thanks to second half goals from Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City were beaten and by Saturday evening, the Foxes, who were bottom of the table at the same stage last season, found themselves sitting on top of the table.

Vardy will look to break the record next week, and perhaps appropriately, it will be against Manchester United.

Vardy and Leicester continue to be the feel-good story of the season and that is why Vardy is the EPL hero of the week.
