Tottenham star Harry Kane could be ruled out for up to two months with ankle ligament damage.

The North London club is currently awaiting the results of scans on the injury, which the 23-year-old suffered late in their weekend clash with Sunderland.

The English international left White Hart Lane on crutches after a nasty looking fall in the closing stages of the 1-0 victory. The extent of the damage is unknown, and possible absence time could range from 10 days to eight weeks.

If a grade two sprain is confirmed, Kane could miss a handful of vital matches, including Champions League group stage fixtures against CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen, and league meetings with Manchester City and Leicester City.

He may also struggle to be fit for the North London derby on November 9th.

Spurs captain Hugo Lloris is confident that summer signing Vincent Janssen will step up in Kane’s absence.

“We used to say that we have a competitive team and I think we are very confident in every player,” the Frenchman said.

“When one player is missing, it gives an opportunity to another player to bring his skills, his energy, his qualities and his strength. This is the story of the season and that’s why we need all the players committed to the club. When the team needs you, you need to respond.”

Kane was the match-winner against the Black Cats, however, his late fall consolidated a bittersweet weekend for Spurs fans, who also saw Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele depart with hamstring cramp.

Neither of those complaints look set to rule out the midfielders for any period of time though.
