Adelaide United boss Guillermo Amor says he is pleased with his side’s persistence after securing a dramatic 2-1 win over Sydney FC on Friday.

The Reds had taken the lead through Jimmy Jeggo’s fantastic hit, but parity was quickly restored through Filip Holosko’s sumptuous lob, before Marcelo Carrusca’s expertly dispatched 95th minute penalty sent the home crowd into jubilant scenes.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, predominantly via a translator, Amor admitted the team’s desire to push on for a winner was extremely satisfying.

“It’s important for us,” Amor said. “The main thing is we were persistent even in spite of [conceding that goal]… we kept fighting and we got a good result I’m quite happy.

“I was confident there would be three or four chances [after conceding to win the game].”

Amor said the red card brandished to Alex Gersbach in the 28th minute was a clear send off and admitted it changed the complexion of the tempestuous affair.

“For us it was a good decision, from the bench it seemed like the tackle was a strong one,” Amor continued.

“But it did change the game, it’s not the same playing against 10 when you have 11 [players].”

Amor also said the decision to award a last-minute penalty for a foul on Dylan McGowan was correct, after Pablo Sanchez’s first-half goal was questionably ruled out for offside because it “balanced out the game”.

Adelaide, who have now collected nine points in 10 rounds, travel to Newcastle next Friday to face a Jets outfit struggling for form of late.
