Manchester United’s £89 million signing has the backing of Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon to shine on his return to Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba left the Bianconeri for a world record fee earlier this month and his former goalkeeper is expecting the “tremendous warrior” to emerge as a star in his second spell with United.
“I have no doubts that Paul will be a success in the Premier League. It may take some time to adapt but I’m certain he will do it, especially as he knows the club well which is important,” said Buffon.
“Manchester United have signed a very good player and a very good teammate.”
Pogba, to the surprise of many, adjusted strait away with an impressive debut against Southampton. His skills were on display with an excellent range of passing and the ability to explode past opponents in a 2-0 win for Jose Mourinho’s side.
“His control of the ball and the way he can swiftly change the play from defence to attack is special…it hurts to lose him,” said Buffon.
Pogba’s character has been called into question since his acrimonious exit from Manchester United in 2012. Having made a sizable impression in Italy, Buffon offers a starkly different view.
“He’s a good kid,” he added.
“The important thing is that his attitude is excellent on the pitch and in training. The thing we will miss most now he has gone is his closeness with everyone in the team.
“I have seen him grow and improve during his time here, especially his attitude on the pitch and the way he works for all the team.”
It is an impressive reference and one Manchester United hopes holds true, as the club looks to rebound strongly from last season’s fifth placed finish.
