Why Tottenham Hotspur will become an English powerhouse

Tottenham Hotspur will look to use the momentum gained from their emphatic win against Manchester United as they take on Stoke City at the Britannia this weekend.

Spurs managed to keep the gap to Leicester City at seven points instead of 10, and with five games to go of this season, the Potters will pose an important challenge for the team.

Mark Hughes’ team was brushed aside by Liverpool’s Divock Origi in a 4-1 defeat last time out, but currently sit ninth in the Premier League behind Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The evening kick-off will come after Leicester play West Ham on the Sunday, which gives this season a sense of battle. Leicester will have made their move and Tottenham need to make sure to not slip-up. The Londoners’ next two games are on the final days of the round, which also allows some tension to build up over the Premier League weekend. It is almost as if the fixtures were created knowing this season was going to happen the way it has.

While Tottenham and the Foxes have been dominating the headlines, Stoke City have been quietly working towards a chance in the Europa League and up until Liverpool leapfrogged them, the Potters were sitting pretty in eighth place. Stoke will be a good game for Spurs as it will bring them back down to earth after such a fizzing win against United. It will be a tough game for sure, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men must gain all three points as Leicester only need three more wins to secure the title. No pressure then.

It has also emerged that Louis wan Gaal turned down the chance to manage Tottenham Hotspur in 2014. The Dutchman said that despite Spurs winning on Sunday and their season in comparison, Manchester United was still a bigger club. But is this statement true?

Is it possible that Tottenham Hotspur become a regular challenger for the Premier League title and a global brand like Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool? Liverpool regularly finish outside of the top four at the end of a season, but are still considered one of the top clubs in England and in the world.

While Spurs have been up there, the club have not managed to stay in the spotlight. It could all change after this season. The relationship that Mauricio Pochettino has with the team will take Tottenham higher than they have ever been before. Should the North London club win the Premier League this year, next season’s task will obviously be to defend their crown, but to also stay up there in the Champions League positions.

The squad at White Hart Lane is young and the talent that is coming through is astonishing. The club will only keep growing and with young players such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli, they can only grow stronger. There are so many youthful English players taking the field that it is almost impossible for Tottenham to put out a fully ‘weakened’ side any more.

They have scored the most goals this season and have also conceded the fewest. These statistics show how good a team the Lilywhites are, and how good they have been this year. Kane also became the most prolific Tottenham striker this season too.

The 22-year-old is in contention for the PFA Player of the Year award and also a chance at retaining his Young Player of the Year award that he bagged last year. He is named alongside his team mate Dele Alli, who has also been exceptional this season for club and country. This just exemplifies the talent of the youth at Tottenham Hotspur, and this is why they are going to be at the top of the Premier League for the next few years at least.
