West Ham and Everton were forced to share the points in their arm wrestle of a match last night, after Manuel Lanzini’s strike was cancelled out by Romelu Lukaku’s second goal in as many games.
It was an evenly contested but dull game for the most part, with few chances to speak of for either side, though the solitary opportunity both sides created for themselves was taken with aplomb.
West Ham took the lead in the 30th minute after Lanzini found himself on the end of a cutback, calmly took a touch to settle himself, and then curled his effort brilliantly into the top right hand corner from the edge of the area.
Their joy was short lived, however, as Everton responded two minutes before the halftime break as Gerard Deulofeu found Romelu Lukaku through the middle, who finished smartly.
The draw sees West Ham looking to the North London derby to see whether they will hold onto their fifth place spot in front of Tottenham, while it was Roberto Martinez’ third draw of the season away from home.
