Chelsea will travel home from White Hart Lane with their pride intact after recording a 0-0 draw against Tottenham.

There was a blistering pace to the game from the opening whistle, Harry Kane putting the visitors on notice when he came inches away from burying a cross inside the opening five minutes. Looking comfortable on the ball, Mauricio Pochettino’s men would probe at goal through Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Ming’s deliveries into the 18-yard area, sending nervous chills through the Chelsea supporters each time. The South Korean playmaker had probably the best chance of the opening half with a close-range header in the 27th minute, while a Mousa Dembele strike from outside the box also produced a fine save from Asmir Begovic.

Chelsea had moments of their own on the counter though, Jose Mourinho opting to use Eden Hazard as a makeshift striker after a rumoured falling-out with Diego Costa. Combining well with Pedro, Oscar and Willian, the Belgian came the closest for the reigning champions with a 20th minute header that went disappointingly over the bar.

Tottenham would enjoy a larger share of the possession and attacking momentum after the restart, but struggled to make it count when trying to break into the final-third. Hazard nearly snatched victory in the 67th minute with an immaculate tight-angled volley which brought the best out of Hugo Lloris, while the Spurs only managed one shot on goal in a second-half that finished scoreless.
