Bony too good to be on the bench

Earlier in the week Man City Manager, Manuel Pellegrini, revealed that it would be Wilfred Bony to replace the injured Sergio Aguero for the duration of the Argentine’s absence. Bony had having scored two Premier League goals for the Citizens since arriving mid-way through last season.

His recent goal scoring form is not reflective of his talent, but more so of the opportunities he is being provided with. Bony was the Premier League’s Top Goalscorer in the 2014 calendar year, whilst playing for a mid-table club like Swansea City.

Bony has always had the potential to fulfill a role much greater than the one that Manuel Pellegrini demands. He has been playing second fiddle to the prolific Sergio Aguero, whom understandably pulls rank on the Ivorian, in a formation that only accommodates a single lone striker.

It must surely be weighing on the mind of the Man City Manager. The 4-4-2 is considered by some to be an outdated formation, but is still the most effective way to put two strikers on the same pitch together. But it would mean Pellegrini abandoning his much more fashionable 4-2-3-1.
