Everton have defeated a poor Newcastle United 3-0 in a dominant performance at Goodison Park on Wednesday night to secure a first home win since November.

Everton

Joel Robles – 7: Only had a couple of saves to make. Will come away from his first league start of the season smiling.

Seamus Coleman – 6.5: Ventured forward more as the match wore on and was Everton’s main outlet from full-back. Picked up a caution for a tug-back.

Phil Jagielka – 7: On of the skipper’s easier nights at the office. Tidied up when required.

Ramiro Funes Mori – 6: Mostly untroubled but a momentary lapse allowed Mitrovic to sneak in behind. Fortunately for the Argentinian, Mitrovic could not make him pay.

Bryan Oviedo – 4.5: Most of the play went down the opposite flank and did not see much of it.

James McCarthy – 6: Solid without being spectacular.

Gareth Barry – 6.5: Dictated the tempo of midfield.

Aaron Lennon – 8.5: Scored the crucial first for Everton with the fientest of strikes. Some last-ditch defence by Chancel Mbemba stopped an effort that may have been destined for the net and saw a strike saved by Rob Elliot in the 51st minute. Won the penalty that sealed the points.

Tom Cleverley – 8: Played a pivotal role in the opener, marauding toward the top of the box and teeing up Lennon. Did not hold back in the tackle and won most of the ones he contested.

Ross Barkley – 8.5: Got off the leash, spending plenty of time on the ball but was often culpable of hanging onto possession for too long. Converted from the spot twice to seal the deal, including a cheeky chip that was a show of his confidence.

Romelu Lukaku – 4: Was well marshalled by the Newcastle defence. Replaced at half time with injury.

Substitutes

Arouna Kone – 4.5: Had a golden chance to double Everton’s money after the ball found its way to him following Elliot’s save off Lennon. However, his effort was poor and sailed over the top.
