Speculation surrounding the relationship between Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge and manager Jurgen Klopp continues to grow following the striker’s ambiguous caption competition on Instagram overnight.

Sturridge, who only featured for five minutes during the Reds’ 1-1 stalemate with Tottenham on the weekend, appeared baffled with Klopp’s decision to introduce Belgian teammate Divock Origi in the 69th minute instead of himself.

The reaction went viral on social media, before the Englishman posted the shot on Instagram with the words, ‘Çaption this…’

Rumours of a potential rift between the 26-year-old and his manager began surfacing after Sturridge vented his frustration at being played out of position in the club’s 2-0 loss to Burnley.

“Of course it is more difficult for me to play wide. I’m a centre-forward,” said Sturridge in a press conference following Liverpool’s 5-0 win against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last week, we he scored a brace off the bench.

Many thought this performance would assure him a starting spot at White Hart Lane, however, Klopp opted for Brazilian teammate, Roberto Firmino.

The manager has since moved to quash any suggestion of discontent.

“Daniel Sturridge is a wonderfully skilled player, but I made the decision based on the kind of defending that was important for Tottenham…I’m really happy that we have him. He will play and he will score and all will be good,” Klopp said yesterday.

Whether Sturridge was intentionally being vague to show further signs of frustration, or making light of these rumours around his relationship with the manager, is unknown.

Sturridge is hoping to be included in Sam Allardyce’s first national team squad for England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers next week.
