Chelsea have completed the signing of left back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina for a reported fee of £23 million.
According to the Serie A side’s official website, the 25-year-old has signed on a permanent deal, becoming Chelsea’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
The Spaniard made 57 appearances for La Viola since joining in 2013 from Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers.
Alonso, whose father Marcos Alonso Peña played senior football for Spain, is a product of the Real Madrid youth system and while he is preferred as a left-back, he can also operate at centre-half, providing Antonio Conte with greater defensive options.
The former youth international has improved significantly since his move to Stadio Artemio Franchi in 2013 and could help settle the defensive problems Chelsea encountered in their previous campaign.
