Bayer Leverkusen (4-2-3-1)

Bernd Leno -4.5: Fished the ball out of his own net on four occasions, but was only at fault for Roma’s first, Leno thumped the ball away only to the advantage of the opposition. He did make a few impressive saves, however.

Giulio Donati – 5: Attempted most passes in the match (56), but failed to influence the match in a defensive sense.

Jonathan Tah – 5: Caught out at times, was skinned by Gervinho which lead to a fourth from Roma. He supplied seven interceptions (the most in match) and three clearances.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos – 5: Could have done more to prevent the momentum swinging goal, made four interceptions and the most clearances (seven).

Wendell – 6: Provided the vital assist to the final equalising goal, completed five tackles (second most in match) and three interceptions.

Omer Toprak – 4.5: Another player vastly responsible for the away side’s opener, caught ball watching. Did not impose himself defensively or attacking wise.

Christoph Kramer – 4.5: A performance that was far from his usual self as of late, committing three fouls and earning a yellow for his troubles. Made two interceptions and finished with a personal below-par pass accuracy of 77.1%.

Karim Bellarabi – 4: A display the tricky winger will want to forget. A successful pass rate of 63.6%, no shots attempted, just one dribble completed – which in itself is dismal considering dribbling is the German’s bread and butter.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 6.5: Integral to the Hernandez double, providing the cross that resulted in a penalty and a well weighted through ball for the second. Failed to produce similar outcomes in the second-half.

Kevin Kampl – 8: Most key passes (three), most dribbles completed (four) and he produced two shots on target. The Slovenian was ultimately the driving force behind the fight-back after scoring a long-range left foot screamer in the 84th minute – and was pivotal in the 86th minute equaliser.

Javier Hernandez – 8: Scored a double and on another day he could of had four. Squandered a header from six-yards out, failing to make it 3-1 and also came incredibly close to finding a 91st minute winner but was just inches away.

Substitutes

Admir Mehmedi – 7.5: Vibrant when entering the battlefield and despite partaking in an inferior 34 minute stint, the 24-year-old concluded the match as one of the superior players. Levelled the scores at 4-4 to earn his side a potentially cherishable point in bizarre circumstances.

Julian Brandt – 5.5: A decent performance, registering two shots on target in his short cameo.

Vladlen Yurchenko – N/A: Only played the final moments of the match.
