In the current era of AUSFIFA, there are a host of teams who possess absolute quality on the park. Teams that consistently perform well and have built a reputation at the highest level.

However, there are some teams who have hit that level of quality and for whatever reason, seem to have fallen off the perch and back down to earth. As the AVPL Season 5 draws ever closer, questions are now being asked of the great team that once was, The Empire.

The football that has been produced recently by the club at times has been phenomenal, showing signs of that team that dominated the AVPL in the first two seasons. The question on everyone’s mind is, can the club get back to their best and reclaim the glorious AVPL Title?

Strengths

The first thing that comes to mind when talking about The Empire is that they’re massive. They are one of very few teams with a successful, fully functioning B-team. The Empire have one of the largest squads on AUSFIFA, with extremely good depth boasting a range of class players. They also have a rich history with two minor Premierships and a season 1 title locked up in their trophy cabinet. The side plays very good football, even if it is not at the standard it once was, confident out from deep in their back-line with accurate passes and meaningful build-up play. This is key in their progression into attack as the midfielders have excellent vision to find the forwards in space.

Weaknesses

Management. With two teams to manage, Scaffaro finds it difficult to cope with all the players. The biggest problem lies in the decision making over which players should be in the A team and B-team. At the moment the, B-team has only one member compared to the A team which has eleven. That leaves a grey cloud over the club as players may be dropped into the B-team, which could very well cause internal problems and player departures. Looking forward towards the next AVPL we could very well see only the A-team competing and the B-team simply not involved at all.

Key Players

The Empire has a catalogue of high level performers in their squad. However it will be important for the club in the upcoming season to not depend too much on their star players. In the midfield, the five-time Team of the Month winner Scaffaro, has one of the biggest impacts on the final result with his deft touch and quick pass mentality. Also up front the club will be looking to utilise star striker The_Reoraa with his sharp record of 17 goals and seven assists in 26 games last season. However, the AUSFIFA community would be ignorant to forget the class that they have at the back with Lesiotis10 who prides himself in defending with an average of 2.7 tackles a game and a consistent 37 clean sheets in 82 games on Rivals.

Prediction

Judging by the clubs great depth and brilliant history, it’s expected The Empire can strike back and return to former glories. The club should be sitting at fifth at the end of the season as there will only be one season table with no conferences, but they could also be making it through to the semi-final and who knows from there.
