Bayern Munich remained league leaders of the Bundesliga after defeating Hertha Berlin 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium.

Pep Guardiola made three changes to the side that defeated Olympiakos in the Champions League. Medhi Benatia, Javi Martinez and Xabi Alanso all came into the starting XI, replacing Douglas Costa, Ajern Robben and Holger Badstuber, respectively. The fresh faces did not disappoint, with Benatia and Martinez providing assists to both goals. The game soon played into Bayern’s hands, controlling the momentum for much of the 90 minutes.

The first goal came just after the half-hour mark, when Arturo Vidal’s corner was flicked onto Thomas Muller through Benatia and the striker headed it into the net. The lead was doubled just before halftime after Kingsley Coeman provided the finishing touches on a wonderful pass from Martinez. It was the same story after the break, yet star hitman Robert Lewandowski could not find the net, although he did have enough chances.

Hertha provided nothing up front until the last 10 minutes when they had two attempts at goal. One came from Genki Haraguchi, who forced Manuel Neuer into a routine save, while Salomon Kalou’s shot went over the bar.
